Unsung Heroes on Display: Lions District 324D Inaugurates 'The Fort of Patriotism'

In a remarkable tribute to the unsung heroes of India's freedom struggle, Lions District 324D, in collaboration with the Jai Hind Foundation, has constructed 'The Fort of Patriotism' near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This awe-inspiring structure stands as a testament to the sacrifices made by freedom fighters, with over 150 portraits adorning its walls. From iconic figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh to lesser-known heroes, the fort showcases the remarkable individuals who fought for India's independence. This privately built fort is the first of its kind in the country and serves as a symbol of national pride and unity.
Honouring Sacrifices:
The Lions District Governor, Ln P John Peter, emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. The Jai Hind Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Coimbatore, collaborated with Lions District 324D to construct this grand fort at a cost of ₹3 crores. Designed in the style of the iconic Red Fort, the permanent structure spans 4 acres and features a gallery displaying photographs of nearly 150 freedom fighters. The intricate details and thoughtful design create an immersive experience for visitors, offering a glimpse into the struggles and sacrifices endured during India's fight for independence.
Promoting Patriotism and National Integration:
The primary objective behind the construction of 'The Fort of Patriotism' is to foster a sense of patriotism, brotherhood, and national integration among the people. Lions District 324D has ambitious plans to expand the fort's offerings, with future additions including models of Jallianwala Bagh, Vellore Fort, and the infamous Andaman Cellular Jail, all spread across 6.5 acres. The fort welcomes visitors free of charge, allowing them to explore the premises from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and gain a realistic understanding of the struggles faced by freedom fighters during the Indian Independence movement.
Inauguration and Symbolic Gestures:
The photo gallery within the fort was inaugurated by International Director PMJF Ln. R. Madanagopal, signifying the importance and significance of this project. Earlier, PID Ln G. Ramaswamy hoisted the national flag atop a towering 75-feet-high pole, adding a poignant touch to the inauguration ceremony. These symbolic gestures further enhance the sense of pride and patriotism associated with 'The Fort of Patriotism,' solidifying its role as a place of historical significance and remembrance.
